2024 Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 119

Hello! It’s your replacement writer from Heroes and Goats again. As mentioned last week, Thomas Smith is gone and will return next weekend for the final game of the Blue Jays series.

In its place, I will just post the table for the game, the three heroes and three goats, and the player of the game poll. Thomas will keep you updated on the H&G rankings when he returns.

So let’s get started!

Fangraphs

THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero: Justin Steele (.226). 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R (unearned), 8 K
  • Hero: Miguel Amaya (.149). 2 for 4, 2 RBI
  • Buddy: Hector Neris (.095). IP, 2 K, Sv (17)

THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat: Pete Crow-Armstrong (-092). 0-for-3, SAC
  • Goat: Nico Hörner (-.030). 1-for-4, R.
  • Child: Ian Happ (-030). 1 for 4.

I broke the above tie and awarded Nico the win since his error helped the Sox score their only run of the game.

WPA move of the game: Miguel Amaya’s two-run single in the eighth inning was the deciding blow. (.188)

*Sox play of the game: Brooks Baldwin reached first base on an error by Hector Neris in the top of the ninth inning. (.093)

Cody Bellinger was the winner of the PoTG poll for Friday’s game, 44 percent to 34 for PCA. I left out the winner of Wednesday’s poll in yesterday’s H&G – for this game against the Twins, Michael Busch was the clear winner with 77 percent of the vote.
