2025 Gateways to Blue Skies Competition

Agriculture faces numerous challenges, including limited resources and growing calls to reduce the environmental impact of agriculture while increasing its climate resilience. NASA Aeronautics is committed to expanding its efforts to support commercial, industrial and government partners in advancing aviation systems that could modernize capabilities in agriculture.

As part of NASA’s 2025 Gateways to Blue Skies: AgAir (Aviation Solutions for Agriculture) competition, student teams will design novel aviation systems that can be used in agriculture by 2035 or sooner, with the goal of improving production, efficiency, environmental sustainability, and resilience to extreme weather and climate conditions.

  • Required action: Teams of 2 to 6 students are asked to submit a 5-7 page proposal and a 2-minute video summarizing the team’s proposal concept.
  • Deadline: The deadline for submission of proposals and videos is February 17, 2025.
  • Forum & Awards Ceremony: We’ll pay you to travel! Up to 8 finalist teams will be selected by a panel of NASA and industry experts and will receive an $8,000 grant to enable full participation in the Gateways to Blue Skies Competition & Forum, to be held in May 2025 at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Mountain View, California. Winners will be offered internships at NASA Aeronautics in the academic year following the competition.
