911 S/T in Dani Blue: When a dream color finally becomes reality

The sports car collector from the US state of Kentucky named the color developed exclusively for him after the color & trim designer Daniela Milošević. A striking feature of the interior is the three-color Pepita pattern on the seat center panels. Like the large-scale leather upholstery in graphite blue, it picks up the blue tone of the exterior paintwork. The 911 S/T in Dani Blue will be one of the highlights of the Monterey Car Week (15 to 17 August 2024) before Porsche hands the vehicle over to its long-standing customer.

“Blue has always been my color. I was never a fan of green,” revealed Jorge Carnicero in one of his earlier projects with Porsche. That highly individual 911 GT3 Touring was based on the millionth 911 that rolled off the production line in Irish Green in 2017. Despite Carnicero’s preference, the model from four years ago ended up being green – British Racing Green.

But now it was time for a Porsche in his favorite color. When configuring a 911 S/T, the sports car collector asked Porsche’s color experts to create a special blue that matches the sporty, puristic character of the limited anniversary model. With the “Paint by Sample Plus” program, the sports car manufacturer offers its customers the opportunity to develop colors according to their own ideas.

Elaborate development by Dani Blue in “Paint to Sample Plus”

“Before we started, we had four Paint Frogs painted in iconic shades of blue,” recalls Colour & Trim designer Daniela Milošević about the beginnings of the special request project. Paint Frogs are miniature cars in the shape of a current 911, which make it easier to judge the effect of colours on a larger 3D body. Enamel blue quickly emerged as the general favourite. This was the colour of the Porsche 901 sports coupé from 1964.

Milošević and her colleagues developed Enamel Blue further and adapted it to the present day. The shade became “a little more colorful, more intense and darker, but not too loud,” the designer remembers. It obviously suited Carnicero’s taste perfectly, whereupon he spontaneously named the color after her – ‘Dani Blue’ was born.

Even the spoiler lip (“Gurney Flap”) at the rear and the Porsche lettering on Carnicero’s 911 S/T are painted in this exclusive color. The extraordinary brilliance of Dani Blue, especially in daylight, is the result of a complex painting cycle. Of the four clear coats, the first was additionally sanded. This also made it possible to embed the 911 S/T lettering, painted in contrasting brilliant silver, flush into the surface.

The customer as a member of the special request family

“Giving the paint my nickname is an overwhelming sign of gratitude towards me and my work,” says Daniela Milošević. It is also proof of the customer’s very appreciative attitude towards the Porsche employees, who found working with him very inspiring and motivating.

Carnicero is happy to return the compliment: “Porsche doesn’t just create unique cars in the special requests program. What’s special for me is the journey itself, the extraordinary team spirit, the people behind it. Everyone is committed to making a personal dream come true, and I can’t thank Porsche enough for that.” With the special requests program, Porsche offers its customers customization at the highest level.

“Jorge Carnicero is a long-standing and highly valued Porsche customer and a member of the Sonderwunsch family. We are delighted that he values the manufacturing philosophy so much,” says Alexander Fabig, Head of Customization and Classic. “For some reason, he has never been able to get a Porsche in his dream color. It probably had to be the 911 S/T, the car that this new color suits so perfectly.”

Harmonious overall concept with attention to detail

The classic look that characterizes all of Jorge Carnicero’s Porsches is created by the combination of Dani Blue with brilliant silver on the lightweight magnesium wheels, the side window surrounds (Daylight Opening) and the 911 S/T lettering painted in brilliant silver behind the front wheel arches. The high-quality overall impression is also underlined by the mirror attachments painted in high-gloss black and the frame of the engine cover around the air intake grille.

A special Easter egg – a small, hidden surprise – can also be found on the exterior: the motto “Simply the Best” above the license plate holder. In keeping with the derivative, the letters S and T of this motto are typographically highlighted in the design of the model lettering. Hidden on the underside of the rear bumper when driving, the message is reserved for special occasions, such as when the 911 S/T in Dani Blue is on display at exhibitions.

Extensive leather interior and seats with exclusive Pepita pattern

The color concept of the exterior is continued in the interior and creates a balance between the sporty, puristic S/T look and high-quality individualization. The most striking feature is the three-color Pepita pattern on the seat center panels. The iconic check pattern, which first adorned the seats of the Porsche 356 in the early 1960s, consists here of threads in graphite blue, chalk and blue.

The one-off piece is also adorned with elegant cross-stitching in GT silver along the dashboard panel and the upper door panel. This cross-stitching can also be found on the side sills. Each cross-stitching is carefully done by hand by the experts in the saddlery. The interior of this special 911 S/T is generously covered with leather in graphite blue, with the natural material also being used for the knee pad and the paneling of the A-pillars. Even the air vents are trimmed with graphite blue leather, which is also used for the door opener loops. The entire roof liner is in Race-Tex in the same color. An eye for high-quality details is also evident in the high-gloss black belt guides of the full bucket seats made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic. The headrests are adorned with the 911 S/T lettering in GT silver.

The members of the Porsche project team have signed the collector’s model on the trim strip on the passenger side. Another Easter egg can be found in the interior. The side ends of the dashboard, which are only visible when the doors are open, bear a “Dani” signature by Daniela Milošević – a surprise and thank you from the customer to the designer.

Another detail with a personal touch: A logo specially designed for Carnicero’s one-off model is embossed on the center console cover and on the vehicle documentation folder. It combines the 911 S/T lettering with Porsche’s current world championship titles. This brings things full circle, because a silver metallic painted 911 S from 1971, which bore the iconic “Porsche Manufacturer World Champion 69, 70, 71” sticker on the side window, was Carnicero’s first Porsche. With the support of Sonderwunsch Manufaktur, he was thus able to combine this latest Sonderwunsch project with a memento of his first great Porsche love.

Like the entire vehicle, the luggage compartment has also been extensively customized. It is covered in graphite blue leather, and the exclusive Pepita pattern is also used here. The trunk mat and the pocket for the warning triangle are made from the three-tone fabric typical of Porsche.

A special blue car cover with the 911 S/T logo and 60-year anniversary logo in contrasting grey completes the exclusive look. And last but not least, the car key, the sides of which are painted in Dani blue – the colour code of Porsche collector Jorge Carnicero, so to speak.

About the Porsche 911 S/T

The special request model is based on the 911 S/T, with which Porsche is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the 911. The special model, limited to 1,963 units, offers a unique combination of agility and driving dynamics. It combines the 386 kW (525 hp, 911 S/T: combined fuel consumption* (WLTP) 13.8 l/100 km, combined CO₂ emissions* (WLTP) 313 g/km, CO₂ class G, weighted CO₂ class combined G) strong 4.0-litre six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine from the 911 GT3 RS with a short-ratio manual transmission. Added to this is consistent lightweight construction down to the smallest detail and a chassis optimized for agility and drivability. The name identifies the new 911 S/T as a descendant of a particularly performance-oriented version of the first 911 generation. From 1969, Porsche offered a special racing version of the 911 S. Internally, these vehicles were called 911 ST.
