Khalifa bin Darai, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, said an ambulance painted red means the patient’s condition is critical.

“Pink vans are for pregnant women; dark green for heavy people – 400 kg and more; light green for people with special needs and blue for general ambulances,” he said, noting that the classification of ambulances by color is the first of its kind in the world.

“On the right and left sides of each ambulance, there is a picture painted to identify the type of patient on board,” he said, adding that a heart image identifies a patient being taken to intensive care, while the pink ambulance has a picture of a mother with a baby pasted on it.

“The total number of ambulances currently stands at 170. Six bicycles are used in Global Village and Jumeriah Beach Residence and a special ambulance was recently unveiled at the Arab Health Exhibition.

21 new, high-quality ambulances have been put into service, replacing the old ones. The service life of each ambulance is five years, he added.
