New York Giants training camp continues on Sunday as they return to practice. Follow all the action via the “Live Updates” below and check back after practice for news and analysis.
The public part of the training camp is now over. There will be no fans at training from now on, with the exception of invited guests or groups. However, the media will still have full access to training over the next few weeks, so we will keep you updated as best we can.
The Giants had to leave two players with injuries after Thursday’s preseason win against the Detroit Lions that could lead to a game interruption. Quarterback Drew Lock (bruised bone/hip) and linebacker Dyontae Johnson (ankle) were injured.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll confirmed that Lock, Cor’Dale Flott (quad) and Johnson would not practice today. Daboll also said center John Michael Schmitz would be limited.

Live practice updates
Nabers spent the rest of practice sitting on the training box, flexing his left foot with an exercise band. Practice is over. Nabers walked to the breakdown huddle, still with some discomfort, but there’s no rush to get him in. https://t.co/PWRcmQhVZS

Malik Nabers did not go in after checking out of practice, but he was visibly limping at the end of practice. He used a band to flex his left ankle/foot while sitting on a chest on the sideline.

Malik Nabers was examined by the training staff on the sidelines. He left the field during the final phase of the game. He took off his left stud and was visibly in pain.
Possibly it was stepped on. I only saw the aftermath of the game. #Giants100— Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) 11 August 2024
Malik Nabers just left the field limping. He took off his left shoe #Giants

I don’t know what’s going on with Dru Phillips. He’s just standing there and not practicing. Tre Herndon is the first team nickel CB.
– Dan Duggan (@DDuggan21) 11 August 2024
Greg Van Roten made his first RG appearances today since his signing. He started as a center during a stint with the first team and then moved to RG when Austin Schlottmann moved to center.
This clearly lays the groundwork for Van Roten to move to RG when Schmitz returns.

Lawrence Cager (hamstring) is back at practice. Just caught a red zone TD from Tommy DeVito.
In the previous game, Tyree Jackson for PBU received a clean pass from Tyler Nubin at the goal line.

Greg Van Roten takes the first two reps at C and moves to RG for the next three, with Schlottmann moving in at C as planned.
The first guards for GVR are a sign that JMS is on the rise. https://t.co/QmsCSm6EqA— Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) 11 August 2024
Notes from the Giants coaches
Head Coach Brian Daboll
Daboll said Drew Lock won’t practice for (at least) the next few days, but they won’t be adding another QB (at the moment).
– Dan Duggan (@DDuggan21) 11 August 2024
#Giants100 Daboll – the lock hurts… will be missing for a few days… will do a bit of running on the side.
….don’t add a third QB at the moment…think he’s ready for the Vikings— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
Defensive line coach Andre Patterson
#Giants DL Coach Patterson – in his 22 years in the NFL, no team has ever drafted him with a first or second round pick…he’s inherited a few but has never been involved in the draft…so you take guys and make them better than anyone thought they could be – that’s always been his challenge.
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
#Giants DL Coach Patterson – Burns has all the skills and he has a strong desire to get better…could be as good as any edge rusher he’s worked with…when you have three Dawgs up front, you’re 90% ahead of the league
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
#Giants DL Coach Patterson – Chatman is strong, powerful, explosive and fast – is possibly the strongest man on the team and his small size works in his favor… still has a long way to go but he has some great qualities… not a small at 285 – just short
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
Defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson
#Giants DB Coach Henderson – Banks is still making steps and maturing…working to become a top-notch defender
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
DB coach Jerome Henderson said Cor’Dale Flott (quad) will be out this week. Great opportunity for Nick McCloud to compete for the CB2 job.
– Dan Duggan (@DDuggan21) 11 August 2024
#Giants DB Coach Henderson – Flott (quad) was just playing his best and then got injured…hope to have him back soon.
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
#Giants DB Coach Henderson – McPud always has a chip on his shoulder and believes he is a starter every day at every position…makes him a great teammate…extremely competitive and can play many positions
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
#Giants DB Coach Henderson – likes what Phillips does in the slot … Belton played well against the Lions and had a really good training camp – he and Nubin battle it out … Belton knocks down a Lions guard in the game … Nubin is intense and focused and impresses others with his effort
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
Quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney
#Giants QB Coach Tierney – Jones is getting used to the speed of this WR room… it got better as camp went on and they’re continuing to build on that
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
#Giants QB coach Tierney – Lock does his job well…did everything he was asked to do
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
#Giants QB Coach Tierney – Devito has handled things well…last year’s experience really helped him…did everything right and works hard
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
Wide receivers coach Mike Groh
#Giants WR coach Groh – Nabers wants to dominate…he’s committed off the field to prepare…impressed with his approach…will have rookie moments, but I think he’s up to the challenge…did a good job with route adjustments against Lions – he’s read the coverage
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
#Giants WR coach Groh – Naber’s next step is to feel more comfortable in the system… the coaches have thrown a lot at him… you can see that he is starting to simply react
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
Offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo
#Giants OL coach Bricillo – satisfied, but not satisfied against the Lions… showed toughness and was a step in the right direction… the reality is that you can’t get comfortable
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
#Giants OL Coach Bricillo – Ezeudu has been in OT and OG…wants to get a good assessment of his tackle…you build him up by doing things every day…
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
#Giants OL coach Bricillo – would like the five players but if you can figure out your top 7 or 8 it’s good… the addition of van Roten was a plus
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
Running backs coach Joel Thomas
#Giants RB coach Thomas – Tracy was definitely and Riom made a good first impression against the Lions … but he says he expected it because he likes the place … open competition behind Singletary – all three gained an advantage against Detroit
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
#Giants RB coach Thomas – the season will determine how much the team runs with the ball… Singletary has proven that he can carry a lot
— GiantsWFAN (@giantswfan) 11 August 2024
