Are you an Edge user? You’re probably familiar with Edge PDF Reader. It’s natively integrated into the browser and you don’t need to open another app to read a PDF file.

And now Microsoft seems to be working on a feature that will make PDF reading a whole lot better. Powered by Copilot AI, you’ll soon be able to ask the AI to scan the entire document and then generate “smart keywords” for it.

A post by trusted browser enthusiast @Leopeva64 on X points out this feature. The best thing about this feature is that once you click on any of these smart keywords, it will take you to the Copilot sidebar in the browser.

This is what it looks like (courtesy of the spotter):

There is a button you can click to enable this feature. You will find the button right next to the “Ask Copilot” button that is already available for regular users in the stable channel.

“Generate smart keywords for this document with Copilot,” says the button’s description.

Microsoft has already announced that it will remove the old PDF viewer from Edge in early 2025 and replace it with a new engine based on Adobe Acrobat. Fortunately, this is not a complete removal, but simply a change to the engine that powers the Edge PDF reader.

And it’s not the only Copilot-related feature being worked on in Edge. Microsoft has revamped the “Design with Copilot” feature in the browser, as well as the “Circle to Search”-like feature called “Circle to Copilot” in Edge.
