Shadows of Doubt launches September 26th for PS5 – new private investigator gameplay revealed – PlayStation.Blog

Hey PlayStation gamers! I’m excited to announce that Shadows of Doubt is coming to PS5 on September 26th. We can’t wait for you to start investigating and tracking down your suspects when the game launches on PS5 next month!

Shadows of Doubt releases September 26 for PS5 – new private detective gameplay revealed

Shadows of Doubt is an immersive crime-solving simulation game in which players take on the role of a private investigator who scours the city for clues and evidence to track down suspects in various crimes and misdemeanors.

As a private detective, you will undertake assignments and investigations ranging from theft and sordid affairs to kidnapping and murder, uncovering evidence through various means to track down your suspect. Our dream is for players to become fully immersed in the role of a private detective roaming the streets of a dynamic, living city. You can purchase and furnish your own apartment, while every street, building and room is fully explorable, giving you the freedom to fully explore and investigate the sci-fi noir world we have created.

Everyone in the city has their own life, their own living space, their own jobs, friends and their own daily routine. They drink coffee or dance in a bar. And with a serial killer on the loose, any of them could be the next victim.

This also means that anyone could be the culprit and it’s up to you to track them down. While every case is different, there are usually a few tried and tested measures you should try to get early clues. Use the fingerprint scanner at the crime scene to look for fingerprints, or if there’s CCTV you can look through it to spot suspicious people. There are many ways to gather evidence, from searching call logs for recent contacts to collecting sales receipts thrown in the trash. Alternatively, there’s always the option of going the more questionable route by bribing citizens for information, hacking private terminals, or breaking into private homes. Your actions may have consequences, but we’ve designed Shadows of Doubt with multiple ways to solve each case, so you can always be the detective you want to be.

Besides improving as a detective and earning a ton of money by solving each case, player progression in Shadows of Doubt comes primarily via Sync Disks, genetic updates that give you a permanent upgrade, and increasing your Social Credit level. Each time you find a Sync Disk in town or receive one as a reward, you’ll have a choice of different upgrades, which makes for interesting choices and introduces some RPG-like elements to the game. The upgrades range from traditional buffs like extra health or inventory space to more interesting modifiers that subtly change the way you play. Social Credit levels act as a type of experience level that you gain by completing cases. Leveling up brings a number of benefits, from the ability to buy property in town to citizens being more likely to let you into their homes. There are a number of other benefits that I’m keen to show you as well, but the basic idea is that you can play Shadows of Doubt with different builds in different generated cities.

Exclusively in the PS5 version, we were able to use the DualSense wireless controller to immerse players even deeper into the world of Shadows of Doubt. Feel the nuance of lock picking through haptic feedback or – my favorite – feel the subtle patter of rain as the weather turns. But of course, Shadows of Doubt wouldn’t be a true detective sim if you didn’t also have an umbrella at your disposal.

Shadows of Doubt has been a real labor of love for me and the team over the last 7 years and we’ve been so thrilled with the response the game has already received. It’s a game that can be as deep or complex as you want it to be and we’ve worked hard to develop complex systems that drive the sandbox behind the game’s crimes and citizens to keep the game fun and engaging no matter your play style. We can’t wait to see how you solve each case when Shadows of Doubt launches on PS5 on September 26th.
