Former President Donald Trump shared a private flight with the President of the Heritage Foundation in April 2022 Kevin Robertswhich raises questions about his connection to the controversial policy proposal “Project 2025”, of which Roberts is the author.
The 45-minute flight took Trump and Roberts from Palm Beach, Florida, to a Heritage Foundation conference where Trump delivered a keynote speech, according to the Washington PostA photo obtained by the newspaper shows Trump and Roberts sitting together on the plane.
In his speech, Trump praised the Heritage team: “They will lay the groundwork and develop detailed plans for exactly what our movement will do.”
Despite these remarks, Trump has since repeatedly claimed that he knew nothing about “Project 2025,” a political plan developed by a coalition of right-wing groups that includes many former members of the Trump administration.
“I have no idea who is responsible for this,” Trump said in a social media post in July.
Roberts, who took over day-to-day management of Project 2025 last week, confirmed that he had briefed Trump on the project: “I have spoken personally with President Trump about Project 2025.”
But Trump’s campaign spokeswoman Caroline Leavitthad previously denied that such information had taken place.
The tension between Trump’s recent denials and his past involvement has intensified criticism of Project 2025’s proposals, which include dismantling the Department of Education and weakening civil service protections. One of the more controversial proposals involves restricting access to abortion drugs, a stance that runs counter to current messaging from Trump’s campaign.
