Livestream of the graduation ceremony for new students 2024

The newest Tar Heels will come together at the New Student Convocation, the official start of the academic year.

The ceremony will take place on August 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the Dean E. Smith Center. The entire Carolina community, including families and friends of Carolina students, can watch the celebration on the university’s livestream page.

This year’s speakers include Chancellor Lee H. Roberts, Provost Chris Clemens, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Amy Johnson and Student Body President Jaleah Taylor. Tar Heel Voices will perform “Hark the Sound.”

The keynote speaker will be Erin Matson, Carolina’s field hockey coach and the most decorated player in the program’s history. Matson won four national championships as a student-athlete and led the Tar Heels to another title last year in her first season as head coach.

The first day of classes is August 19th. The “Weeks of Welcome” events run until September 1st.
