ISLAMABAD: According to sources, the federal government has decided to amend the passport regulations according to which citizens can apply for a travel document in any city of the country.

With this new decision, the government wants to make it easier for citizens to obtain a passport.

The passport fee can be submitted at any branch of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) across the country due to the new change, the sources added.

In addition, the Ministry of the Interior has submitted the summary of the new amendment to the passport regulations to the Cabinet.

Once the Cabinet approves the summary, the new passport changes will become official.

Already on August 6, Justice Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar informed the National Assembly that the problem would be solved by the end of September after the installation of new equipment and software, as complaints were increasing due to the long delays in issuing passports.

In response to a report on delays in passport issuance, the Federal Minister expressed optimism that the introduction of the new system would also help to reduce the existing backlog in processing passport applications.

He said the new system would be installed soon and the daily capacity to issue passports would increase from 26,000 to 60,000.
