Bavarian Nordic receives EU order for 175,420 mpox vaccine doses

Bavarian Nordic has received an order for 175,420 doses of its MVA-BN vaccine against Mpox from the European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority, HERA, the vaccine manufacturer announced on the stock exchange on Tuesday evening.

The doses will be passed on to the African Union’s health authority Africa CDC and used in the fight against the MPOX outbreak on the continent.

Bavarian Nordic has also decided to donate 40,000 doses to Africa CDC. The company had previously donated 15,000 doses for the same purpose.

“Mpox is spreading at an alarming rate in Africa, requiring further action from the international community. We are proud to support HERA’s vaccine donation to the region and are pleased to announce another donation from Bavarian Nordic,” said Paul Chaplin, CEO of Bavarian Nordic, in a statement.

“We also welcome the initiatives of the Africa CDC and WHO to strengthen and coordinate public health efforts. This will help ensure that our vaccine can reach more people on the African continent.”

In connection with Tuesday’s order, the Danish company is maintaining its expectations for 2024, but also says that the order backlog in the public pensions business has now reached the lower end of the range of DKK 2,700-3,000 million (USD 398-441 million) forecast for 2024.

Total sales in 2024 are expected to be DKK 5,000–5,400 million (USD 736–795 million).
