Star defender wants to “do a Kylian Mbappe” to move to Real Madrid

Real Madrid have been linked with Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies for almost a year and it looks like they will get their man next summer. The 23-year-old’s contract expires next year and he can sign for Los Blancos for free.

Bayern are apparently willing to persuade him to sign a new contract during the season and have in the past opened the door to a sale this summer, albeit for around €50 million – a difference of €15-20 million from what Real Madrid are willing to shell out. Marca mentions that Real Madrid were not impressed with his agent Nedal Huoseh leaking information about numbers and keeping the door to Bayern open.

However, Davies is clear about his intentions and is aware that in order to move to Real Madrid and play alongside the Frenchman at the Santiago Bernabeu, he will have to “do a Kylian Mbappe”, meaning he will have to let his contract expire and then move for free.

While contract extension talks are ongoing with Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia, Real Madrid are willing to wait for Davies, with options already in place for next season. Before the end of last season, it was believed that Real Madrid would be pursuing a deal for Davies this summer, but the security that Mendy provided last season has given them a much stronger negotiating position.
