What is the Vintage Wood hair color trend? It’s a mood for fall 2024

Unfortunately, it’s almost time to say goodbye to summer, which for many means it’s time to do something new and transform your hair into something more suited to the cooler months ahead. For anyone with summer blonde hair, that means going a little darker and earthier for the new season. Or, even if you don’t have super-light hair right now, you might still feel a change as you head into fall. And luckily, there’s a new shade hitting the internet right now that might be just the right color for you.

On August 8, actress Joey King revealed the perfect hair color to transition into the season, one that embraces the bold and edgy characteristics of summer while bringing in a more subtle warmth reminiscent of fall. Dimitris Giannetos, the visionary stylist behind King’s currently on-trend hair color, coined the term “Vintage Wood” to describe it.

This term accurately captures the color it describes: a dark, warm, golden blonde with lowlights and highlights. The blend of these colors adds depth and dimension to standard blonde or brunette hair color, making it an excellent choice for those with lighter hair who want it darker, or those with darker hair who want it lighter. Either way, it’s a beautiful look for those who want a striking change without being too extreme. The warm, natural undertones of this shade make it an ideal transition as the weather gets cooler, giving your look a subtle but impactful refresh.

How to get the vintage wood hair color

According to Giannetos’ Instagram post about King’s hair transformation, he created the look by mixing blonde highlights with rich 6.3 Moroccanoil Color Rhapsody Permanent Color Lowlights. Giannetos also said he applied a light chocolate blonde toner to complete the transformation, achieving a flawless, sunlit brown shade with a natural bronze finish.

King’s striking hair color is just one element of her ultimate brat look, seen in Giannetos’ Instagram post. Giannetos completed the aesthetic by adding subtle waves using a GHD curling iron and finishing the styling with Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray. The soft waves and added texture seamlessly capture the aesthetic of an effortless party girl (once again ensuring brat summer lives on!), but with a more elegant and glamorous twist. It’s also such an understated color that you can probably wear it with many different looks, so feel free to experiment!
