A rare blue supermoon on August 19 will affect these zodiac signs

On Monday, August 19, at 2:26 p.m. ET, the full moon will peak at 17 degrees in Aquarius, a sign associated with asymmetrical haircuts, revolutionary ideals, glow-in-the-dark stars, tentacle erotica, and utopian dreams.

Expect the unexpected, folks.

This full moon is both a supermoon and a blue moon—and it comes hot and bright to shine a harsh light on all the aspects of our lives where we have failed to improve and/or contribute to the well-being of those around us.

Aquarius is ruled by both Saturn, the ruler of challenge, and Uranus, the lightning-fast agent of change. In this sense, the energy of this Moon forces us to change our challenges so that they better suit our personal development.

Make sure your fight is right, got it?

The Full Moon in Aquarius is opposite the Sun in Leo. Both form an exact (and very funny!) square with Uranus, the planet of sudden change and rude awakenings.

It won’t be gentle, but it will be beneficial – this aspect, known as the T-square, is something of a benevolent tyrant, escalating certain conditions so that we are forced to take action, initiate change, reprogram and otherwise free ourselves and live a true life.

Since the shock planet Uranus is the central planet here, we should look for unusual and always radical solutions to our restlessness.

These energies also suggest that we will experience surprises, bombshells, and sudden reversals of fate. It is in our best interest to respond to irritation with innovation—and to resist the urge to brood, complain, or solve problems with established patterns.

Greet the chaos with a French kiss instead of a raised fist.

Moon vs. Mercury retrograde

For fun, the full moon also opposes Mercury, which is currently retrograde in Leo, promoting antagonism and widening the gap between the rational and the emotional, with reason losing out to reaction.

Moon Omens claims, “We may find ourselves taking a strong stance on one side, dismissing the validity of the other side, or projecting our own biases onto those around us… We may feel more stubborn and less willing to compromise. It’s important to recognize this tendency and strive to combine intellectual insights with emotional information.”

If we allow it, this star stew can illustrate how discourse can be the first step toward mutual benefit.

In a sense, this insidious astrological weather is not testing us, but preparing us to receive something.

What is a supermoon?

Supermoon is a more attractive shorthand for what astrologers call a perigean full moon, where the full moon appears brighter, stronger and better because it is closest to Earth in its elliptical orbit

Supermoons exceed the disk size of the average moon by about 8% and can appear 16% brighter.

When the full moon rises, problems, emotions, intestinal parasites, menstruation and other delicate situations come to the surface that require attention.

A supermoon amplifies these effects because of its proximity; it’s more insightful and emotive, folks.

Which zodiac signs will be most affected?

Since this Full Moon falls in a fixed sign, the fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius will feel these effects the most.

TAURUS (April 20 – May 20)

Get ready for changes in your career, Taurus—upheavals and revelations could get you kicked out the door or send you further up the proverbial corporate ladder. Make sure you’re moving up for a purpose that goes beyond coins, Taurus babies.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

As a Leo, look for light and shadow in your relationships. Are you in a state of mutual growth and acceptance – or are you simply high on the greed to be liked? How can you use attraction to encourage and support cooperation?

SCORPIO (October 23rd – November 21st)

Scorpio, your fourth house of home and history, is getting pretty damn well lit up by this full moon. Watch for conflicts related to your family of origin—and/or repressed childhood traumas—that are resurfacing in your consciousness. Remember that forgiveness is the most radical act of courage you can undertake.

AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 18)

Aquarius, this full moon is fully focused on your first house of self and identity, meaning the skin suit of who you were may be ready for a refresh. You might feel awash in feelings this full moon, not a place you particularly like to be, but if you can wade through the rubble, you’ll find yourself on a much better shore than before.
