Annual Hansen Fellowship Program announced

The Dane G. Hansen Foundation is providing scholarships in four categories to students in 26 counties in northwest Kansas for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Students attending an accredited high school, registered independent, private or home school in any of the following 26 counties are eligible to apply: Cheyenne, Cloud, Decatur, Ellis, Ellsworth, Gove, Graham, Jewell, Lincoln, Logan, Mitchell, Norton, Osborne, Ottawa, Phillips, Rawlins, Republic, Rooks, Russell, Saline, Sheridan, Sherman, Smith, Thomas, Trego and Wallace.

The following scholarships are available for students graduating in the current academic year:

Seven Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarships with annual awards of $10,000, renewable for three additional years if criteria established by the scholarship committee are met. Recipients must attend an accredited four-year public, private, or parochial college or university in Kansas.

35 Hansen Scholar scholarships of $6,500 annually, renewable for three additional years if criteria established by the scholarship committee are met. Recipients must attend an accredited four-year public, private, or parochial college or university in Kansas.

Seventy Hansen Student Scholarships provide an annual award of $4,000, renewable for an additional year if criteria established by the scholarship committee are met. Recipients must attend an accredited community, public, private, or parochial college or university in Kansas.

To qualify for the above scholarships, a student must have taken the ACT test and have an overall score of 23 or higher and a grade point average of at least 3.50 (unweighted). The student should be an active participant in extracurricular school and community activities and demonstrate good citizenship qualities, leadership, and moral integrity.

Students who wish to compete for the Leaders of Tomorrow, Hansen Scholar, or Hansen Student scholarships must register at their school and take the aptitude test at locations to be announced. Information about all scholarships has been sent to qualifying schools in the area. Tentative testing dates have been set for September 11 and 12.

Also available are one hundred Hansen Career and Technical Education Scholarships of $4,000 per year, renewable for an additional year upon meeting criteria established by the Scholarship Committee. Career and Technical Education Scholarships are available to encourage high school seniors who wish to gain competency through vocational training. Applicants for the Career and Technical Education Scholarship must complete an application form available from the school counselor or downloaded from www.danehansenfoundation.org. The Scholarship Committee is interested in the student’s character, activities and goals. Applicants for the Hansen Career and Technical Education Scholarship are not required to take an aptitude test. A grade point average of 3.50 is not required to apply for this scholarship. Career and technical education scholarships must be used at one of the following pre-approved schools in northwest Kansas: Fort Hays Tech North Central (Beloit or Hays), Colby Community College, Fort Hays Tech Northwest, Hays Academy of Hair Design (Hays or Salina), Cloud County Community College, Salina Area Technical College, Fort Hays State University (two-year program), or Kansas State Polytechnic Salina (two-year program). A student who plans to complete a one- or two-year technical or associate degree program at a school not on the pre-approved list above is not eligible to apply.

Through scholarships, the Trustees of the Dane G. Hansen Foundation promote good citizenship and high academic achievement. Improving educational opportunities for students in western Kansas is a high priority among the goals of the Trustees of the Hansen Foundation.
