In contrast to the three seasons before, season 4 of The Umbrella Academy on Netflix does not rely on the comics, but tells an original story.

Fans may be curious about a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) by The Umbrella Academy‘s official site. The image in the post shows a comic book cover depicting one of the big twists in Season 4: The Jennifer Incident.

Although the cover was drawn by Original Umbrella Academy Artist Gabariel Bá, it’s not actually the cover of a real comic book. Rather, it’s a piece of artwork inspired by the comics to show what a comic covering the events of the fourth season might look like.

How do the Umbrella Academy comics end?

Since the last season of The Umbrella Academy not based on a comic book, fans may wonder why the original ended differently.

The short answer is: No. The comics are not finished yet, the fourth series, The Umbrella Academy: Sparrow Academycurrently in progress.

As the title suggests, this fourth series will probably not focus on the same things as The Umbrella Academy Season 4 did this instead of exploring the facets of Season 3 that were not The Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion.

Given the extremely negative reactions from fans to the end of The Umbrella Academy On Netflix, Gerard Way and Bá could use the opportunity to give the comic book version of the story a different ending rather than reinforcing what fans didn’t like about the series.

That is, if the comics continue at all, with the development of The Umbrella Academy: Sparrow Academy begins to resemble that of Hotel Oblivionwhich doesn’t bode well for impatient fans.

Around the mid-2010s, Way took a long break from writing The Umbrella Academy Comics. He had originally announced the third series, Hotel Oblivionwith a release date in 2010. By 2013, he announced that Hotel Oblivion was not released for “Really long… because (Way) is stepping away from comics indefinitely.” The book was only published in 2018, coinciding with the upcoming premiere of the Netflix series.

Now that the Netflix series has ended, it’s been years since the last major update on the fourth comic’s development, suggesting that it could be a long time before the comic story continues. However, none of this is confirmed, and as all fans know, it could happen much sooner than expected.

All four seasons of The Umbrella Academy can be streamed on Netflix.
