Now that the Google Pixel 9 series is official and its features have been thoroughly analyzed, you might be tempted to order one for yourself. If that’s the case, you should do it sooner rather than later, as two of these models are already in high demand.
Google’s listed launch dates for its new phones are August 22 for the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL, and September 4 for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The base model Pixel 9 and Pro XL are still fairly easy to get hold of from Google and Amazon (the two main outlets that currently sell you the new Pixels), and will ship straight to your door within a day or two of the 22nd. Things might get trickier for the other two, though.
On the Google Store, most color variants of the Pixel 9 Pro have a delay of about a week and won’t ship until September 10th at the earliest if we use the zip code of Tom’s Guide’s New York office.
The green/gray Hazel version seems to be the most popular, however, as it’s expected to ship around September 24, three weeks after launch. Specifying more storage will shorten your wait time, but that also means you’ll have to pay more.
Luckily, Amazon will easily sell you a Pixel 9 Pro in Hazel, Porcelain, or Obsidian and deliver it to you a few days after launch, but Google is offering free credit with its purchases, which could be an added deal for those willing to wait.
Meanwhile, at est Buy, the Pixel 9 Pro is only listed as “Coming Soon,” so you can’t actually buy any version of this phone yet. Things are even worse with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The 512GB Porcelain version is completely sold out in the US Google Store, and the standard 256GB version is set to be available from September 17.
But the good news is that orders for the Obsidian version should arrive at Google and Best Buy on release day. Amazon unfortunately doesn’t have any Pixel 9 Pro Folds available in the official Google Store.
