The radio demon Alastor is one of the greatest mysteries in Prime Video’s adult animated music series. Hazbin Hotel. Since the show is about redeeming sinners so they can go to heaven, could this mysterious figure be one of them? Amir Talai sat down with Perri Nemiroff for a sequence of Collider forcesto discuss whether his character could one day be worthy of heaven.

When asked whether Alastor could be redeemed, Talai answered sensitively:

“I believe that anyone can be redeemed. I think that’s one of the beautiful things about this show. But they have to be willing to put in the work, and the more bad you’ve done, the more work you have to do to redeem yourself. So, Alastor has done some bad things in his life, he’s done some bad things in Hell, and if he wants to redeem himself, he’s going to have to work very hard. But first he has to want it. I think there are a lot of people who don’t want to be redeemed in Hell or on Earth.”

However, Talai was very tight-lipped on one topic. When Nemiroff asked who Alastor cared about most and who he would give everything for, Talai simply said: “I won’t answer that.”

Alastor’s backstory is explored in season 2 of “Hazbin Hotel”

Alastor fans can look forward to a lot in Hazbin Hotelsecond season. Whether it’s a grander narrative or more songs than in the first season, there will also be some juicy Alastor content. At the San Diego Comic-Con 2024, the series creator Vivienne Medrano shared that canonizing Alastor’s backstory was a priority for her. “I’ve had him for so long and have developed him as a character for so long that people kind of know his backstory,” Medrano explained. “It was a very high priority for Me to canonize this backstory because it’s full circle for me, not only as a storyteller, but also because I’ve had this character for so long. So I’m very excited for people to see the real, canonical version of his backstory on screen. I’ve just had it for so long, so I’m very excited about it.”

Alastor was the first character Medrano developed when she was young, and she wanted to make sure the radio demon’s background was visible on screen:

“I have known Alastor since middle school
in the earliest iterations. Most of what he is now came about in high school and college, but he stayed pretty much the same the whole time. It was more just his design. He started
a deer, just an animal, but he was evil. A cannibal deer
and then it turned into a cannibalistic magical deer, and then it was like an evil demon deer. They turned into the human form, which was also a deer. Eventually he became a demon that just looks like a deer and has deer aspects, because of a backstory I gave him.”

Hazbin Hotel has been renewed through season 4 and you can stream previous episodes on Prime Video. Don’t miss Talai’s full episode of Collider forces.
