COLORADO SPRINGS – You may have seen some of the Navy’s Blue Angels training before the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow this weekend!
On Thursday, News5 had the opportunity to speak with Tristan Lafferty, an aerostructures mechanic with the Blue Angels F/A-18 Super Hornets. He grew up in Grand Junction and remembers watching the Blue Angels there.
Lafferty says it’s great to be back in Colorado and not far from home.
“For me, this is really cool because I have a lot of family and friends in the area,” Lafferty said. “…we travel around a lot and they can’t come to a lot of air shows. But since we’re only a couple hours from home, they can come and I can visit them and show them how cool my job is.”
The Blue Angels visited Colorado Springs in January before the air show. News5’s Dianne Derby had the opportunity to speak with two of the pilots. They say they will be part of the volunteer team for two or three years and then return to action.
