Unveiling of North Dakota’s oldest and most historic hotel

If there is one thing I value in life, it is STORY.

It was one of my favorite subjects in school and when we can add North Dakota into the equation, it’s all the more interesting. I love our state’s rich history and I appreciate the many generations of North Dakotans who have helped make it what it is today.

Yes, North Dakota is not for everyone. I think that’s why many of us live here.

We like the wide open spaces of our prairies and the ability to see as far as the eye can see. We want to be able to get anywhere in our cities in 10 to 15 minutes (minus road construction time). We value caring neighbors, we reward hard-working people, and we cherish our North Dakota heritage.

Recently I came across an article by Love Exploring about the oldest hotels in America.

North Dakota’s oldest hotel is located about an hour and forty-five minutes from Mandan. Yes, it’s only fitting that North Dakota’s oldest hotel is located in one of our most historic cities – a city that has recently received much praise and recognition from out-of-state publications.

Located in none other than Medora, we present the world famous Rough Riders Hotel.

This hotel was built in 1884. It was originally known as the Metropolitan Hotel. The article describes how guests will feel transported back to the Wild West.

The Rough Riders Hotel’s decor includes dark wood, tin-tile ceilings, and plenty of books to browse through. The brick fireplace in Theodore’s Dining Room is stunning.
