Div Com Kashmir reviews progress of second special summary revision in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 16: Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, who is also the Voter Observer for Srinagar district today, reviewed the arrangements and progress of the ongoing 2nd Special Summary Revision 24 in Srinagar district in a meeting held here.

Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, who is also the District Election Officer (DEO) of Srinagar, was also present on the occasion.

At the outset, DEO presented an overview of the programs and activities carried out in the district during the ongoing SSR.

On this occasion, Div Com undertook a detailed review of the progress made in the District under the ongoing SSR and the number of new applications for admission received besides the number of other claims and objections.

He also reviewed the digitization process and removal of claims and objections. He asked the concerned Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to carry out revisions as per the ECI guidelines as per the notified schedule and expedite the process to achieve the targets.

The Chairman was informed that all the ERO/AEROs of District Srinagar received the necessary training on voter registration process during the last week of July.

In addition, separate training sessions were conducted for all 932 BLOs of Srinagar district on using BLO app developed by ECI for registration of new voters and for all other claims and objections.

They were also informed about the Voter Helpline app, which can be used to register new voters. Newly appointed BLOs were also trained before the H2H poll began.

It was further observed that out of the total 932 BLOs of Srinagar district, 827 BLOs are local constituencies as they are registered voters in their respective parts while the remaining 105 BLOs are voters of adjoining constituencies.

It was informed that the draft electoral roll is available on the CEO website and copies of the entire district photo electoral rolls have been posted on the notice board in the office of each ERO and in polling stations and at various designated locations including District Offices, Nayabat Offices and Tehsil Offices for convenience/inspection of the public/electorate as per the wishes of the Election Commission of India/Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir.

At the time of registration, it was stated that the ongoing revision of the summary was widely publicized in print and electronic form. In addition, information boards about the 2nd SSR were installed at prominent locations in the district and educational programs on SVEEP were organized.

To cover the weaker and marginalised sections of the population, awareness programmes have been launched to ensure registration of the weaker/marginalised sections of the population.

Roll Observer stressed that under the SVEEP programme, EROs must do their best to motivate all young voters to register on the electoral rolls through various awareness campaigns and ensure that no voter remains unregistered.

It was further stated that the BLOs have been strictly instructed to consider objections only on Form 7 and to duly substantiate all objections to cancellations. It was stated that around 10,000 cancellation requests have been considered since June 25, 2024 and most of the requests have been processed through the H2H survey.

ADC, Srinagar and EROs of the district, among others, participated in the meeting.
