ECI conducts summary revision of voter lists in Assam

Guwahati, August 16: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided to conduct a special summary revision (SSR) of photo voter lists for Assam with a cut-off date of January 1, 2025.

The summary audit will also be carried out in other states as per the ECI’s instructions, except the electoral states of Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir.

The Commission has decided to conduct an annual summary revision with reference to 1 January 2025 as a cut-off date so that the electoral rolls are finally published before National Voters’ Day (25 January) each year so that the Electors’ Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) produced for new voters, particularly young voters (18-19 years), can be distributed to them on 25 January.

The revision of the electoral roll will be carried out in two phases: preparatory and revision measures. In order to obtain high-quality electoral rolls, equal weight will be given to preparatory and revision measures.

Pre-revision activities will begin on 20 August and last until 28 October 2024.

Preparatory measures ahead of the audit include door-to-door verification by polling station officials, rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations, removal of discrepancies in the electoral roll/EPIC, improvement of image quality, ensuring good photograph quality, etc.

The main audit activity will start on 29 October 2024 and be completed on 6 January 2025.

The Election Authority will publish the draft photo voter roll for Assam on October 29. The period for filing claims and objections will begin from October 29 and end on November 28, 2024.

All claims and appeals will be resolved by 24 December 2024 and the final photo electoral rolls will be published on 6 January 2025.
