Rocco Super Smart Fridge review: A cool conversation piece

There’s also Smart Mode, which makes the fridge act more like a thermostat at higher temperatures. There’s also Party Mode, which prioritizes cooling drinks more than reducing noise. After a few minutes, I heard the compressor get a little louder. When I opened it a few minutes later, it was definitely colder in there. (Rocco lists the temperature range as 37 to 64 degrees Fahrenheit.)

However, if I wanted the drinks to stay colder while having a party where people would be opening the drinks a lot, I could just lower the temperature myself to the desired level. I really don’t see much need for all these modes. Using a wireless Bluetooth thermometer, I tested the temperature changes in the fridge for each mode to make sure they were working properly. I gave each of them 10 minutes to change and tested each shelf on both ends of the fridge. I was pleased to see that all of the readings were only a few degrees off from the fridge reading.

The other main feature of the app is the vision system. When you first set up the app, sensors in the fridge scan everything you keep in it. Each drink then appears in your app, sorted by drawer. I keep some fairly obscure drinks, like the seaweed-infused drink OoMee and Yaté Yerba Mate, and most of them were recognized, so I was impressed, although some, like my Dolin vermouth, one of the most popular vermouth brands, were not recognized.

Nutritional information is also provided for each drink, although many of these are incomplete. In theory, you could go to the supermarket and just check the app to see which drinks are running low. I found that I didn’t do this often, although I was curious to see if I was one time low on LaCroix and checked the app to see if that was indeed the case. So it was convenient.

However, the system isn’t perfect. Right now it’s showing that I have one LaCroix left, even though I haven’t had one in a few weeks. I’d love to be able to purchase something I run out of directly through the app.

The dual temperature system also allows you to set half of the fridge to one temperature and the other half to another, which you can adjust manually or through the app. While this is important so I can keep bottled water and wine at different temperatures, this is a feature that many wine fridges have, so it’s not exclusive to the Rocco Fridge.

Timeless design

The Rocco has a sort of mid-century feel but also feels contemporary. I love the fluted glass door which looks stunning at night when the lights inside shine through it. It becomes a topic of conversation every time someone comes into my apartment. You can turn the lights on and off and adjust the brightness through the app.

The top of the fridge is flat and sturdy so it can also be used as a bar cart. The raised edges on the sides also mean that the bottles I put on it don’t fall off as easily. I have a bar cart that’s overflowing with bottles so it’s nice to have this one right next to it so there’s some left over.
