Uncanny X-Men (2024) #1 – written by Gail Simone, with art by David Marquez – featured cerebro-scan pages for the four young mutants who debuted at the end of the issue. The cerebro-scan for Calico, aka Becca Constance Simon-Pinette, revealed important details about her upbringing and her mutant ability, which gives her a psychic connection to her horse, Ember.

Calico’s connection to Ember helps the horse transform into an unknown number of different equine forms. With her inventive talent and interesting anti-mutant origins, Calico instantly becomes one of the most dynamic new characters in the Marvel Universe.

As the Outliers join the Marvel Universe and the X-Men, it will be fascinating to follow their stories and showcase their inventive mutant skills as they join Rogue’s team and fight against the Endling. Calico’s wealthy anti-mutant upbringing coupled with her psychic ability to communicate with and transform her horse Ember make her one of the most interesting characters in the new line of wild mutants. Becca’s captivating ability to be a psychic horse isn’t the group’s only bold new ability; a black hole heart, hyperfocus, and necromancy are some of the Outlier’s other gifts bestowed upon them with their X-gene and mutation. The mutated Outliers need the
X-Men
Help, but one of them is actually the Endling in disguise.


Uncanny X-Men #1 revealed that the villain Endling is stalking and killing young mutants to punish the X-Men for their resurrection protocols and cheating death in the Krakoa era. The four young mutant outliers have found Rogue’s team and now rely on the experienced X-Men to protect them from the fearsome new antagonist. Marvel also quickly establishes a Professor X and Magneto dynamic between Rogue and Cyclops, making Rogue’s class of new mutants she has taken in a major development for the entire X-Men franchise.

Although the Outliers need the help of the X-Men, one of the four young mutants seems to be secretly part of the cruel conspiracy against the heroes. A shocking and frightening scene in the first issue of Uncanny X-Men sees Rogue, Gambit and Wolverine visiting a young mutant in the hospital, as arranged by Nightcrawler. The young mutant, Harvey X, was supposed to be on the mend, but dies in front of the team after giving a stark warning. He tells Rogue that the mutated Outliers need the X-Men Help, but one of them is actually the Endling in disguise.
