Donald Trump makes campaign stop in Howell

Former President Donald Trump will make a campaign visit to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

The Republican presidential candidate is expected to speak on the topic of “crime and security” during the event in Howell.

“Since Kamala Harris took office, Americans have watched crime, chaos and tragedy break out across our country,” said a statement on Trump’s visit.

Trump’s visit to Howell on Tuesday afternoon will be his first since holding a rally at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids on July 20. The rally was his first since an assassination attempt and his first with fellow vice president JD Vance.

Vance has returned to Michigan twice since Grand Rapids, once for an appearance at the Shelby Township Police Department on Aug. 7 and on Wednesday for a speech at a gravel hauling company in Byron Center.

Trump’s planned visit to Howell coincides with the Democrats’ meeting in Chicago for the Democratic Party Convention, where his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, will be officially nominated.

Trump’s last visit to Michigan came one day before President Joe Biden ended his presidential campaign and endorsed Harris.

In the weeks that followed, Vance used his campaign appearances in Michigan to criticize Harris’ border policies and the impact of inflation on everyday spending.
