NASCAR Clash moves to Bowman Gray Stadium in 2025

NASCAR is returning to its roots and moving the Clash next season to Bowman Gray Stadium, the quarter-mile track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, known for close racing and tantrums.

The Clash will take place on February 2, 2025. Fox Sports will broadcast the race.

It will be the first time the Cup Series has been held at the track, also known as “The Madhouse,” since 1971. For the past three years, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum has hosted the Clash, which was held on a purpose-built quarter-mile track inside the historic stadium.

Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s executive vice president and chief venue and racing innovations officer, made the announcement Saturday night at Bowman Gray Stadium prior to the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series event at the track.

“See you in February,” Kennedy told fans at Bowman Gray Stadium.

Built in 1937, Bowman Gray Stadium is the longest-running weekly race track in NASCAR history. NASCAR founders Bill France Sr. and Alvin Hawkins brought motorsports there as the first weekly race track and first paved race track on which NASCAR competed. Earlier this year, NASCAR took over management operations of the stadium in partnership with the city of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Between 1958 and 1971, the track hosted 29 Cup races. Bob Welborn won the first race in 1958. Bobby Allison won the track’s last Cup race in 1971. Other winners included Richard Petty, David Pearson, Junior Johnson, Rex White, Glen Wood and Lee Petty.

Bowman Gray hosted NASCAR East Series races from 2011 to 2015. Kennedy won a NASCAR East Series race there in 2013.

Current Cup drivers who have competed at Bowman Gray include Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, Corey LaJoie, Bubba Wallace, Alex Bowman, William Byron, Justin Haley, Ryan Preece and Daniel Suarez.
