Upcoming Comics August 21, 2024

Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! With the November offerings released on Friday, we have a better look at what DC’s All-In will look like, and I’m so excited to see Cass get her own Batgirl run again. It’s probably foolish to get my hopes up too much, but Puckett’s Batgirl run from 2000 is fantastic and should make anyone a fan of the character. This one is certainly a tall order. At the very least, it should do better than a certain other revived series that came out this month.

The Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #2

Deathstroke’s past and present collide when he discovers that the source of Vandar Savage’s wrath is protected by Adeline, Deathstroke’s wife. But what she holds in her possession may be the only thing that can end this endless winter forever. Crossing Vandar is dangerous enough, but their quest has barely begun when tragedy strikes… Star writer Tom Taylor returns to the world of Dark Knights of Steel with artist Riccardo Federici to tell the story of an orphan… the heir to the throne of Atlantis, whose arrival will mean prosperity… or terror!

  • Written by: Jay Kristoff, Tom Taylor
  • Drawn in pencil by: Tirso, Riccardo Federici
  • Inks from: Tirso, Riccardo Federici
  • Colors from: Tirso, Arif Prianto
  • Cover by: Tirso

Thoughts: Aaron seemed really impressed with the first issue of this series, so let’s hope the quality stays that way.

Titans #14

Trigon is coming. The threat from hell threatens to destroy the entire world. Can our heroes and Swamp Thing save the planet? Is Raven lost forever? Will the Titans be united or torn apart?

  • Written by: Tom Taylor
  • Drawn in pencil by: Lucas Meyer
  • Inks from: Lucas Meyer
  • Colors from: Adriano Lucas
  • Cover by: Lucas Meyer, Marcelo Maiolo

Thoughts: I swear I’ve seen this exact premise for a Titans story about half a dozen times (minus Swamp Thing).

Beyond the Bat

Welcome to Beyond the Bat, where we take a quick look at the rest of the DC comics coming out this week.

Graphic Novel Clock

Sometimes you need more than floppy disks. Sometimes you want something that will sit nicely on the shelf and proudly display your favorite stories. That’s when you turn to graphic novels. Let’s take a look at what bat collections are coming out this week:

Reviews

Most excited: Batman/Superman: The Best in the World #30– Waid has done a great job integrating different corners of the DC Universe, so it only makes sense that he completes the trinity

Least excited: Gotham City Sirens #3– Speaking of wasted potential.

Wildcard: Nightwing #117– I admit, I’m curious to see how Bruce handles being Nightwing.

That’s it for this week! Let us know in the comments which comics you’re looking forward to.
