Over the years Emily in Paris Fans have commented on star Lily Collins – particularly the fact that she looked unnaturally thin at times during the show.

Some fans on Reddit wanted to avoid body shaming but addressed the fact that she looks unhealthy at her weight, which was the case throughout her time on Emily in Paris. Reddit comments ranged from saying she suffers from anorexia to other types of chronic illnesses.

Over the years, Collins has addressed these issues on numerous occasions. She admitted that she suffered from an eating disorder as a teenager, which was an important part of her story off camera.

Speaking to Porter Edit in 2022, Collins discussed her medical career and noted how she “came out into the world with the desire to do something, to tell something.”

She is someone “who is very open” have a strong belief in speaking openly about issues “which are considered embarrassing or confusing.”

One of the most important things to her is the people around her, and she praises her support system that is there for whatever she needs:

“It’s always a learning process. But I feel like I can maintain that balance. And I have a support system of people who I know will help me when I need it.”

Collins had previously spoken in detail about her battle with anorexia in an interview with The Times, linking it to the divorce of her parents (her parents are Jill Tavelman and Grammy Award winner Phil Collins).

There was a “terrible separation” between her and her father, and she explained how these problems affected many of her “deepest insecurities.”

Previously, Collins spoke about her struggle with her eating disorder in 2017 ahead of her Netflix film Down to the bonefor which she had to lose quite a lot of weight.

She told Refinery29 it was a “scary process” but she knew she would be safe working with the women on set and a high-level nutritionist:

“I knew this time I would be held accountable for it. I would be (losing weight) under the supervision of a nutritionist and surrounded by all these amazing women on set. So I knew I would be in a safe environment to explore this.”

However, she also had to deal with many problematic and hurtful comments from people outside the set.

She told The Edit about an old friend who commented on her weight loss and said she looked great before the actress realized what a big deal it was:

“One day I left my apartment and someone I’ve known for a long time, my mother’s age, said to me, ‘Oh, wow, look at you!’ I tried to explain it to her (I had lost weight for a role) and she said, ‘No! I want to know what you’re doing, you look great!’ I got in the car with my mother and said, ‘That’s why the problem exists.'”

Encounters like these have fueled Collins’ passion to raise awareness about weight issues, especially since discussions about them are usually so heated in the entertainment industry.
