As a White Martian, M’gann is used to being telepathically connected to others, even when she is not actively reading their minds. She explains that even when she is not reading minds, she can feel the buzzing of others’ thoughts, which gives her a sense of connection. Now Without this ability she feels incredibly lonely and disconnectedwhich has a particularly severe impact on her mental and emotional state. In addition, the loss of this connection makes M’gann feel out of tune with herself and fears that it could lead to mistakes that could cost someone their life.

M’gann’s deep emotional reaction to her lack of powers is a dimension of Absolute power that has yet to be fully explored. While many heroes are now powerless, few if any have been portrayed in such deep emotional distress, which is surprising considering many of them have had their powers since birth. One would expect a greater sense of loss from the heroes, as losing their powers can feel like losing a part of themselves. Therefore, M’gann’s emotional turmoil makes the heroes’ reactions to Waller’s theft of their powers seem more realistic and also adds a crucial emotional element to the crisis event.
