First Piney Woods Comic Con held in Lufkin

LUFKIN, Texas (KETK) – The first-ever Piney Woods Comic Con took place this weekend at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center in Lufkin.

The biggest labor conflicts in East Texas: The Timber Wars of 1911–1912

Guests at the convention included Peter Kelamis, who voiced Goku in “Dragon Ball Z,” Kevin Sorbo, who starred in “Hercules” and “God’s Not Dead,” and Carla Perez, who played the villainous Rita Repulsa in “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.”

“I considered myself a little bit of a nerd as a kid, so this is like Vegas for nerds,” Kelamis said. “It’s a compliment because if you have a passion for comics, anime, certain TV shows, or just anime art or comics or anything like that, there are places like this where you’re not alone. You can come and celebrate your interests with like-minded people, and that’s what’s so cool about these events.”

The two-day event included several guests, vendors, a gaming area, a cosplay contest, and more. For more information about the convention, visit Piney Woods Comic Con online.
