WEIRTON – Weir High School graduates of the class of 1979 celebrated the 45th anniversary of their graduation with a special reunion held Aug. 2 and 3 at Undo’s Restaurant at the Holiday Inn in Weirton.

The reunion began on August 2nd with a meet-and-greet event. Classmates traveled from Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, California, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina and West Virginia.

The winner of the evening’s 50/50 drawing was Patrick Kelley, organizers announced.

The theme for the August 3rd celebration was “Aging Like a Fine Wine.” Organizers and committee members decorated the event in red, white, and blue. Many classmates were dressed in the colors of the theme. The event was attended by 62 classmates and 30 guests. The evening began with dinner and dancing. Dan Enich gave the introduction and welcomed those who had made the journey to reunite.

After Enich, April Gats Merico paid tribute to the 60 classmates who have died since graduation. Dankovchik led the prayer and Lisa Williams Baldwin led the singing of the Alma Mater. Sheryl Wallace Linkesh won a 50/50 drawing. Attendees participated in a silent auction, won by Ken Uselton, and a Chinese auction, which offered about 40 items donated by classmates.

The money raised will be used for the next class reunion, said the organizers. Photos from past class reunions were on display, and a memorial tree with photos of deceased classmates was also on the program. DJ Chelsea provided dance music and a photo booth provided new memories and rounded off the evening.

The 50th meeting will take place in 2029.
