George Miller and Mandy Walker head the jury of the FilmLight Color Awards (EXCLUSIVE)

At the FilmLight Color Awards, director, author and producer of the “Mad Max” saga George Miller was named guest of honor of the jury and Oscar-nominated cinematographer Mandy Walker (“Elvis”) was named jury president.

The awards honor feature film and television colorists and are presented annually at the EnergaCamerimage international film festival, which this year takes place from November 16 to 23 in Torun, Poland.

“Just as slow-drying oil paints allowed Renaissance art to become more iterative, the colorist’s digital tools have expanded the plasticity of each individual frame of moving images,” Miller said.

Walker added that colorists help the cinematographer “enhance storytelling through color, contrast, light and darkness – creating atmosphere and drawing the audience’s attention to what is important in the frame.”

Other well-known cameramen on this year’s jury include three-time Oscar winner Robert Richardson (“Hugo,” “Aviator,” “JFK”), Oscar winner Erik Messerschmidt (“Mank”), Catherine Goldschmidt, Birgit Gudjonsdottir, Tim Kuhn, Michael Liu, Avik Mukhopadhayay and Hou Yong.

The jury is made up of an international roster of colorists, including Natasha Leonnet, Tim Masick, Kaitlyn Battistelli, Greg Fisher, Jose Francisco Neto, Mahak Gupta, Jax Harney, Elodie Ichter, Dirk Meier, Yov Moor, Marina Starke, Damien Vandercruyssen and Jason Zukowski. Film engineering veteran Ben Gervais completes the jury.

Presented by FilmLight, maker of the Baselight color correction system, the competition honors colorists in six categories: Feature Film, TV Series/Episode, Commercial, Music Video, Spotlight (for lower budget films or TV movies) and Emerging Talent. Nominees will be announced at Camerimage in the fall before the awards ceremony.
