NJ Transit, Amtrak delays: Check the status of your bus, train or flight HERE

Parts of New York City were hit by severe storms and flooding Sunday evening, significantly disrupting NJ Transit, Amtrak and air travel in NY, NJ and CT.

In Connecticut, numerous roads were closed due to flooding, and Metro-North Railroad announced that service on the Waterbury Branch in both directions was suspended due to a landslide near Seymour. Passengers are asked to use the New Haven Line until service can resume.

“Rail service on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line is running on schedule or near schedule in both directions, with residual delays on trains already in transit due to previous flooding near Newark International Airport,” the agency said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, around 1:30 a.m.

Last night, Amtrak service between New York and Philadelphia and two NJ Transit lines were shut down for more than two hours due to flooding above the tracks. Service has since been restored.

Flooding in NYC and NJ

In parts of the Tri-State region, gusty winds caused flash flooding.

“Service between Philadelphia 30th St (PHL) and New York Penn Station (NYP) has been restored,” the agency said in a post on X around 10:25 p.m. on Sunday.

However, some Amtrak trains between New York and Washington in both directions were canceled due to equipment problems.

New York City Emergency Management officials ordered ground stops at LaGuardia and Newark airports until at least 9 p.m. Sunday as several flights were delayed or canceled.

The problems at the airport extended from Boston down to Orlando, where passengers heading to New York were also stranded.
