A former NFL player from Massachusetts was arrested on a flight Sunday after allegedly urinating on a passenger, Massachusetts State Police said.

Gosder Cherilus, a 40-year-old former football player from Wakefield, was arrested at Logan International Airport around 2 a.m. Sunday morning. He was on a flight from Boston to Dublin, Ireland, when the incident occurred, police said.

The flight was diverted to Boston after the incident. Officials said when they asked Cherilus to leave the plane, he became “angry and uncooperative” before he was eventually escorted out and arrested.

Flight from Boston to Dublin diverted after man allegedly urinated on passenger

A Delta Airlines flight from Logan International Airport to Dublin Airport was diverted to Boston early Sunday after 40-year-old Gosder Cherilus allegedly urinated on another passenger, police said.

Police said officers boarded the plane around 2 a.m. after being notified of an unruly passenger and “verbally ordered Cherilus to exit the aircraft, but he became irate and uncooperative.”

“Law enforcement officers eventually escorted Cherilus to the jetway and arrested him for disorderly conduct and disrupting the flight crew,” the statement said.

A Delta spokesperson said in a statement that the flight returned to Boston “due to an unruly customer.”

“Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful conduct and will cooperate with law enforcement authorities to this end,” the statement said.

The passengers eventually travelled on to Dublin on another flight later on Sunday.

Who is Gosder Cherilus?

Gosder Cherilus is a 40-year-old former NFL player from Wakefield.

Cherilus attended Somerville High School in Somerville before attending Boston College, where he played on the football team from 2003 to 2007.

He was drafted into the NFL in 2008. Cherilus played for the Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before retiring in 2016.
