Gnomes wander through the historic Medina

MEDINA, Ohio — With school starting soon, a group of gnomes are once again causing trouble in Medina’s historic district, just waiting for the children to find them.

George Sam of Main Street Medina said Gnomes on the Roam is a program that started in 2018 and has been a popular activity since then.

“We didn’t always do it as a back-to-school event,” Sam said. “Sometimes it was during spring break or another time, but we used it as a way to get the kids active and engaged and let them explore the area.”

Sam said that from August 12 to 18, 20 participating stores will have ceramic gnomes either in their window or hidden somewhere in the store.

“Each of the gnomes is painted in the style of the respective building and they have creative names,” he said.

Children can find forms to fill out on Main Street Medina’s website. Participants who find the location and name of 10 of the 20 gnomes can submit their completed form and be entered into a drawing to win prizes, which will take place on August 19th.

“We have lots of great prizes, many of which are gift vouchers,” said Sam. “I know some of our participants are offering back-to-school specials this week, so it’s a great opportunity for children to get out and experience some of our local and independent businesses.”

Participating businesses include All Fired Up, Bella Moxie Company, Bubbleberry, Cool Beans Café, Do it Again Shop, Elements, Heart & Soul Gift Boutique, JK Gift Shop, Lemonberry Frozen Yogurt, LilyNicholas Shoppe, Medina Center for Dance Art, Nibble , Ohio Valley Pizza, Reverie, Root Candles, Sgt. Clean Car Wash, Simply Charlotte, Something’s Popping, Sully’s Irish Pub and The Raspberry & The Rose.
