Pro-Trump CNN spokesman David Urban complains the DNC is not white enough

Pro-Trump CNN analyst David Urban complained that there were no whites or men present on the first night of the Democratic National Convention and that “many women of color” appeared in a program that was not aimed at his own “target audience.”

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) began on Monday evening in Chicago with a speech by the President Joe Biden – a white man from Scranton – and speeches by double-digit white people, including union leaders and workers, a Trump voter and a governor from the South.

In the Tuesday morning edition of CNN News CentralUrban reviewed his notes and told hosts John Berman and Sara Sidner that there was “nothing” for his “target audience” on the first night, on a show that was “very focused on abortion” and featured “a lot of women of color and women”:

SARA SIDNER: And the crowd is screaming: Lock her up! Lock him up, lock him up! That’s something that Donald Trump and all the rallies in 2016 and up to now have heard over and over again from the crowd.

What were you thinking? Because if we go –

JOHN BERMAN: Let her have her moment, I don’t begrudge her this moment, do I?

I and my opinion of last night were clearly not, as John said, the audience. I took away several things, right?

First of all, this was a very fundamental decision and the Democrats had better get their act together because it was terribly orchestrated and staged. It took too long. Joe Biden left overnight.

I know that’s not how it’s consumed. Nobody, at least most Americans, stays up to watch a second episode and snippets. But it was really just poorly produced. And I, you know, and I think that was a missed opportunity in many places because sweet little James was left off the bill last night, right? They had James Taylor there practicing.

I don’t think there was much interaction with Tim Walz at the party. If you’re a white working-class guy from Erie County, Pennsylvania, nothing spoke to you last night.

They weren’t going after those voters last night, the Tim Walz voters, but it was aimed at, you know, certain…

A lot about abortion. Right? A lot of women of color and women. So you’re right that my target audience last night was not the target audience.

And I found that quite interesting.
