Historic Main Street 5K and Family Color Run return to Elizabeth

The City of Elizabeth is preparing to celebrate the community’s history when the Historic Main Street 5K and Family Color Run return in 2024, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7.

Alexandra Cramer, city planner and project manager, says the “historic” aspect of the race comes from its route, “which starts and ends on our historic Main Street and showcases the heart of Elizabeth. Runners can experience the charm of our downtown before venturing onto scenic trails through Running Creek Park and Evans Park.”

The race has a new course and heads over the reconstructed trail bridge and north through Evans Park. Cramer said the course winds through the disc golf course and offers fun and varied terrain. The city has partnered with Colorado Race Timing to provide the official chip timing for the 5K, giving participants accurate, professional results to measure their performance.

The Family Color Run will also start later this year, at 10 a.m., so participants can participate in both the 5K and the Color Run. A breakfast food truck will be available as part of the post-run festivities. As in years past, there will be face painting, street games and race-related booths.

Cramer said the city’s overall goal with the race is to bring the community together, promote a healthy lifestyle and highlight Elizabeth’s unique blend of history and natural beauty.

The hope is to attract visitors to historic Main Street and encourage them to explore and visit local businesses. “This event is a perfect opportunity for participants and spectators to discover the great offerings we have in downtown Elizabeth,” Cramer said. “We hope they stay after the run to shop, eat and experience the charm of our local businesses.”
