PREORDER ON AMAZON

You can also order the book from Amazon, where Sunrise is available in hardcover, Kindle and audiobook formats. Amazon’s pre-order guarantee ensures that you will only be charged the lowest price between the date of your online pre-order and the shipping date.

Publisher Scholastic Press has provided both Amazon and Target with a preliminary cover of the new book. The official cover reveal is expected in the coming months. The book is expected to be 400 pages long.

Set 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, Sunrise on the Reaping follows a new group of characters as they prepare for the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games (also known as the Second Quarter Quell). Readers of the other books will, of course, know that – spoiler alert – Haymitch Abernathy won the games, leading to a series of retaliatory strikes by President Snow.

This is the second prequel to the original Hunger Games book trilogy after The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which was published in 2020. Sunrise takes place 40 years after the events of that novel.

“In ‘Sunrise on the Reaping,’ I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the ease with which the many are ruled by the few,'” author Suzanne Collins told AP. “The story also lent itself to a deeper look at the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question of ‘real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day.”

Who will take tribute? Who will live and die? Return to Panem with Sunrise on the Reaping, available for pre-order now. The book follows The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay, and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. These novels are currently available as part of a four-volume paperback box set at Amazon and Target.
