Butter blonde is the perfect transitional blonde for autumn

Whether you’re a natural blonde or a bottle blonde, it’s hard to part with the stunning color, but the same blonde that looks great in the summer may not be the shade you want in the fall. We’ve heard rumors about meringue blonde, named after the sweet dessert confection, but we like to call it what it is – butter blonde. Think Sophie Turner, Diane Kruger and Reneé Rapp. That’s the energy and hair we want to carry into the new season.

What is butter blonde?

“This is a yellow-gold honey blonde look reminiscent of lemon meringue,” says celebrity colorist Cherise Wilson. “This look will add warmth and shine to many complexions and will sparkle on camera as golden tones really reflect the light!” The shade has a creamy consistency, adds colorist Lauren Mildice of Maxine Salon in Chicago.

It’s “a light blonde with a blend of buttery golden tones that blend throughout, creating a look that balances soft, warm tones,” says Richy Kandasamy, vice president of color development at R+Color. “This trend is perfect for anyone who wants to give their hair a sun-kissed, warm tone as the weather gets cooler and keep that summer glow all year long,” says Chase Kusero, co-founder of IGK Hair Care. “It’s a great transitional color that brightens up the fall palette.”

What to ask for at the salon to get the butter blonde look

Wilson recommends asking your colorist for “light highlights that are still golden and not too white.” Also, “Use a gold base to lift and warm up the rest of the hair, give it shine and bring the base to gold. Give it a light gold sheen to give it that meringue shine!”
