Colorado Springs is forecast to see cloudy skies Wednesday morning before showers with possible heavy rain, hail and strong winds in the afternoon.
“A few showers moving across the Continental Divide this morning will lead to a fairly cloudy start to our Wednesday, with a few showers possible along and west of the Continental Divide this morning as well,” said meteorologist Alan Rose of Gazette news partner KOAA. “Most areas should remain dry through this afternoon, when another round of showers and thunderstorms move from the mountains to the plains.”
According to Rose, today’s storms could start earlier than in recent days and break out in the Pikes Peak region between 1 and 2 p.m. Heavy rain, 1-inch hail, strong wind gusts and frequent lightning are expected.
There is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday. Expect partly sunny skies and highs of 31 degrees.
Looking ahead to Wednesday night, there is a 40 percent chance of rain until 11 p.m. Cloudy skies and low temperatures of 15.5 degrees are expected.
As the summer monsoon continues, there is still a chance of rain until the weekend with maximum temperatures around 27 degrees.
“Thursday will be a repeat, with showers and thunderstorms again in our forecast. Heavy rain and flooding will continue to be possible through Thursday evening. The monsoon influence will weaken from Friday into the weekend, with fewer storms on Friday and generally dry skies east of the mountains through next weekend,” Rose said.
