The Kindle Kids is basically the same e-reader that adults get with the regular Kindle, except this one comes with some nice extras for kids. First off, you have three options for super-cute covers: Ocean Explorer, Space Whale, and Unicorn Valley.
More importantly, the Kindle Kids comes with a two-year worry-free guarantee. What does that mean? In Amazon’s own words, “If it breaks, we’ll replace it.” So if your child breaks this Kindle, you can replace it for free.
Also cool is the included Amazon Kids+ subscription, which provides access to age-appropriate e-books and audiobooks for children ages 3 to 12. The included subscription is good for one year, after which you can either cancel it or continue for $5.99 per month.
This is the latest version of Kindle Kids (at the time of writing), which features a 6-inch, 300 PPI anti-glare screen. The battery lasts up to six weeks, assuming about half an hour of reading per day.
The Kindle Paperwhite Kids is also on sale at Amazon (for $135, down from the usual $170). This model has an improved lighting system and a larger 6.8-inch screen, plus more cover choices.
