A group of people placed maggots on food tables during a DNC breakfast at a Chicago hotel on Wednesday.
According to DNC officials, “multiple female perpetrators” entered the building and began placing “unknown items” on tables containing food before leaving the area.
One person was treated and discharged for an unspecified illness.
Several delegates confirmed to NBC Chicago that the “objects” were maggots, and Chicago police and the FBI are coordinating their response to the incident, the DNC said.
According to Randy Gyllenhaal of NBC Chicago, pro-Palestinian activists carried out a similar maggot-crap at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s hotel in Washington, DC.
The Fairmont Hotel confirmed in a statement that there were “disruptions” at a DNC breakfast on Wednesday morning.
“The safety and well-being of our guests and staff is our top priority,” the statement said. “Our team responded immediately, cleaning and disinfecting the area to ensure the event could proceed without further incident. We maintain the highest standards of food safety and cleanliness throughout our property and have strict protocols in place to manage any disruptions.”
Protests continued throughout the week. On Tuesday, individuals clashed with Chicago police near the Israeli consulate. More than four dozen arrests were reported in that incident. At least one person was charged with injuring police officers.
