Release date of digital-only Xbox Series X announced, pre-orders possible

Microsoft has announced the release date for the upcoming Xbox console variants, including the digital-only Series X.

The three new Xbox console variants were first announced in June. At the time, Microsoft only stated that they would be available by the end of the year, without providing any further details.

That was the case until today, when Microsoft confirmed that the three new Xbox Series X/S console options will be released on October 15, with select countries following suit on October 29.

Those interested can pre-order the Xbox Series S – 1TB in Robot White, Xbox Series X – 1TB Digital Edition in Robot White, and Xbox Series X – 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition now. Microsoft says they will be “available in all regions and markets currently supported by Xbox hardware” (unless you’re in Mexico, where pre-orders for those will be available “coming soon”).

The prices are as follows:

  • Xbox Series S 1TB in Robot White – £299.99
  • Xbox Series X 1TB Digital Edition – £429.99
  • Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition – £549.99

“With an exciting lineup of new games coming this year, there’s no better time to join Xbox,” Microsoft concluded today’s post.

Elsewhere in Microsoft news, it was announced last night that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be the next game under the company’s auspices to make the jump to PlayStation.

This follows Microsoft’s earlier announcement that it would be bringing more of its games to a wider audience. Earlier this year, Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment also made their way to additional platforms. Upon its PS5 debut, Sea of Thieves landed at the top of the console’s download charts.

However, there is still no word on this Xbox handheld…
