Rumor has it that Behr’s color of the year 2025 is elegant, durable and appropriately understated

Before the Behr Color of the Year 2025 is announced, here’s what you should know: When it comes to interior paint, some colors are known to stir up excitement among consumers. Purple and red, for example, are notoriously polarizing. So the results of a recent consumer survey conducted by paint manufacturer Behr may come as a bit of a surprise: More than 75% of respondents said they would consider painting a room or wall a shade of red.

Rumors (MQ1-15), the Behr color of the year 2025

With this in mind, paint manufacturer has named Rumors (MQ1-15), a deep and dynamic shade of purple, the Behr Color of the Year 2025.

“It’s the perfect color to bring a balance of warmth and vitality to a space,” says Erica Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr. She believes Rumors will help DIYers, designers and painting professionals harness the power of color in both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Has the “unexpected red” theory manifested itself? Not quite—instead of scouring the cultural lexicon for color inspiration like in years past, Behr relied on consumer opinion to make its selections. This year, Woelfel says, it’s all about empowering customers. Behr’s research, an online survey of 1,000 American adults, found that red “can have a positive impact on mood.” A majority of participants agreed that the color makes them feel stronger and more confident. In Rumors’ research, respondents described the enriching, enduring hue not only as glamorous (51%), but also luxurious (57%) and expensive (47%). “It has the vibe of a luxury hotel,” says Woelfel, adding that extending that vibe to the living space can create a sense of escapism.

Perhaps Rumors’ enriching hue will act as a catalyst, as Woelfel says people are now looking to bring color into their homes. Whether it’s bold all four walls or painting a cozy corner or piece of furniture, “red is an easy way to start, especially since we’ve been decorating with neutrals for so many years.”
