Keraton at Plaza Jakarta, Hyatt’s new all-club hotel

This is a pretty niche one, but a former Marriott in Jakarta is becoming a Hyatt, and I’m pretty excited that…

Basics of Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta

Keraton at Plaza Jakarta is set to join Hyatt’s Unbound Collection, one of Hyatt’s “soft” brands for unique properties. The 138-room hotel is currently scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2024, but the hotel is not yet accepting reservations.

You’re probably thinking, “So what, who cares about a random hotel opening in Jakarta?” Well, there are two things that make this notable.

For one, Keraton at The Plaza used to be a Marriott Luxury Collection hotel (and before that, a Starwood Luxury Collection hotel). I actually stayed here during my visit to Jakarta in 2017. The hotel closed in early 2020, around the start of the pandemic, so it’s interesting that it’s reopening now, over four years later.

I’m not sure what happened there. Did it just stay closed because it wasn’t busy? Did the building undergo a full renovation? There’s very little information as of now, but I’m sure we’ll hear more soon. Despite the opening being imminent, Hyatt’s website doesn’t even have any pictures of the hotel’s interior.

Secondly, what makes this hotel special is that it is a pure club hotel. We all know the concept of club lounges in hotels, but this hotel takes it a step further and offers a club lounge for all guests. When I was here, there was a restaurant for breakfast, and guests could order unlimited food from an extensive menu in the club lounge throughout the day.

You can think of it almost like an all-inclusive deal, except you’re in a city business hotel rather than a resort. Hyatt calls it an “all-club hotel,” so it sounds like that concept will stick around even after the hotel reopens.

I’m planning a trip to Jakarta in the next few weeks for a test trip (I’ll let you guess which product I want to test) and I plan to visit Jakarta for a few days. Jakarta is of course a city with excellent value for money for luxury hotels, at least from an international perspective. Almost all of the top hotels in the city are available for 200-300 USD per night.

As someone loyal to World of Hyatt, I can’t help but point out how great Hyatt’s portfolio is:

  • I heard the Park Hyatt Jakarta is amazing and I definitely plan on staying there
  • The Alila SCBD Jakarta seems to receive generally positive reviews, but does not reach the same level as the Park Hyatt. The hotel also offers an evening happy hour for Globalist members.
  • The Grand Hyatt Jakarta has been renovated and it seems that both the upgraded rooms and the club are pretty great

Now we have another option, the Keraton at the Plaza. I think I need to get to Jakarta before this other hotel opens, otherwise I’ll be overwhelmed by the choice.

To anyone who knows Jakarta better than me, I’m curious which hotel you would stay at other than the Park Hyatt. I guess it doesn’t even have to be a Hyatt and could be another brand…

Conclusion

Keraton at Plaza Jakarta is scheduled to open as a Hyatt Unbound Collection hotel in late 2024 after being closed for over four years. This is a unique hotel as it is a pure club hotel, meaning all guests receive unlimited food and drinks in the lounge throughout the day.

Hyatt has quite a large portfolio of premium and luxury properties in Jakarta and I can’t wait to check them out soon.
