What to read: 7 bestsellers recently optioned for film and TV

Aug. 22 (UPI) – Bibliophiles who love to see their favorite literary worlds brought to life on screen have a lot to look forward to. Bestselling authors Colleen Hoover, Emily Henry and Elin Hilderbrand bring their stories to the screen again, while up-and-coming authors Shelby Van Pelt, Jessica Anya Blau and Gabrielle Zevin see their works adapted for the first time.

Here are the seven novels that are finding their way into film and television.

“Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt

In Remarkably bright creaturesIn this book, an aquarium caretaker forms a unique bond with an octopus who helps her uncover details about her son’s disappearance decades ago. Tova Sullivan took the job at the Sowell Bay Aquarium after her husband died, and Marcellus the octopus takes her to her heart. The book has sold over 2 million copies and is Shelby Van Pelt’s first.

Sally Field is in talks to star in the film adaptation, which will stream on Netflix. Field is known for her work in Forrest Gump, Magnolias made of steel, Mrs. Doubtfire And 80 for Brady. Olivia Newman, who starred in the film adaptation of Where the crayfish sing, will direct.

“Funny Story” by Emily Henry

In Funny storytwo people seek revenge on their exes who are now together. When Daphne’s fiancé Peter leaves her for his best friend Petra, Daphne sleeps with Miles, Petra’s ex. Then she and Miles try to stir up jealousy by pretending to be dating.

The Funny story The film adaptation is the latest Emily Henry novel to be optioned for the big screen, but it is the first that Henry will take on as screenwriter. Earlier this month, Netflix announced Emily Bader and Tom Blyth as the stars of People we meet on vacationbased on Henry’s book of the same name. The cast has not yet been announced Funny story.

“Verity” by Colleen Hoover

Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni star in the adaptation of Hoover’s novel. It ends with us, now in cinemas. Truth is the second book by Hoover to be made into a film. TruthWriter Lowen Ashleigh is hired to help bestselling author Verity Crawford complete a book project, but the collaboration brings disturbing secrets to light.

Hillary Seitz (The Unforgivable) is writing the screenplay and Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund of Eat the Cat will produce. The cast of Truth has not yet been announced.

“Regretting You” by Colleen Hoover

In Hoover’s I’m sorry, A mother and daughter who are not getting along lose the person who holds their family together. Chris is Morgan’s husband and the father of 16-year-old Clara, and he dies unexpectedly. The story explores whether Morgan and Clara can rebuild their relationship after the loss drives them further apart.

The main role in the film is played by Allison Williams (Girls, get out) and McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: The Ice Cold Empire). Susan McMartin is writing the screenplay and Josh Boone is directing. Producers include Robert Kulzer, Brunson Green and Anna Todd.

“The Five-Star Weekend” by Elin Hilderbrand

In The five-star weekendA grieving food blogger invites important people from her past to vacation. Hollis Shaw’s husband Matthew has just died in a car accident and Hollis is dealing with the challenges in that relationship as well as the problems she is having with her daughter. The getaway includes old friends, an early love and a new acquaintance.

The book was the inspiration for a series executive produced by Sue Naegle and Ali Krug of Dinner Party Productions, author Elin Hilderbrand and screenwriter Bekah Brunstetter. The five-star weekend will be streamed on Peacock. Hilderbrand’s novel The perfect couple has been adapted into a Netflix series starring Nicole Kidman, premiering on September 5.

“Mary Jane” by Jessica Anya Blau

In Mary Janea 14-year-old girl takes a job as a nanny in a home that is a stark contrast to her stuffy upbringing. The child Mary Jane is caring for is the daughter of a psychiatrist, and the doctor is currently removing a rock star from drug rehab (and hosting the musician’s famous wife) in his home. Set in the 1970s, the novel shows how a new environment helps Mary Jane better understand who she is.

Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum (Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries) will direct the adaptation. Jessica Anya Blau, the author of the book, will write the screenplay and 3000 Pictures will produce it. The cast has not yet been announced.

“Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow” by Gabrielle Zevin

In Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrowTwo college students develop a video game that changes their lives forever. Sam and Sadie, who were friends in their youth, become close again while Sam is studying at Harvard, and together they create the highly successful Ichigo-san. The couple must navigate the ups and downs that come with their early success.

Gabrielle Zevin, who wrote the book, will serve as executive producer on the Paramount Pictures adaptation, which was planned before the novel’s release. Siân Heder (ŠKODA) will lead Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow. The cast members have not been announced yet.
