SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI – Casting calls are now open for the GEAR all-skills production of “Spice of Life,” slated for performance this fall.
GEAR – an acronym for the group Give Everyone A Role – opens up theatre, acting, technical production and connections to anyone with the desire and interest. Beth Berry has led this effort for many years.
Although the production will take place in November, it is never too early to start looking for people who would like to get involved and help shape the two-day production.
Casting – everyone gets a role, there are no auditions – will be next Thursday, August 29, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Wakefield Baptist Church, 236 Main St. in Wakefield.
Berry will also be holding casting calls on September 3rd from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Frank Olean Center (93 Airport Road in Westerly) and again the next day, September 4th, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Wakefield Baptist Church.
“The actors who participate in a GEAR production have jobs. They go to school, play sports, sing in choir, cook and create art. That means a single 60-minute rehearsal per week is all most people can fit into their schedule,” she said.
“So we’ll be casting for two weeks, the last week of August and the first week of September. Rehearsals start on September 10th and we’ll have a total of nine hours to memorize each scene, block, choreograph and work out the costumes before we go into our tech week,” she added.
