How to make TikTok’s trendy egg flight recipe

As it turns out, the most popular flight of the summer has nothing to do with travel! The latest TikTok creation is the Egg Flight — halved hard-boiled eggs topped with basically any topping you can find in your pantry and fridge.

Like wine tastings, toast tastings, and other food and drink tastings, egg tastings consist of a variety of creative topping combinations on a boiled egg base for the perfect protein-packed snack. Think of it like a deconstructed deviled egg – which also happens to be one of Ree Drummond’s favorite finger foods!

“It’s dangerous for me to have them around,” says Ree. “Sometimes I’ll tell myself, ‘I’m only eating half an egg,’ when I eat one, and then I’ll eat seven more.” Unlike a typical deviled egg, the mayonnaise and other creamy ingredients are added directly to the cooked egg slice. Then you can top your egg halves with bacon, cheese, tomatoes, herbs and spices galore!

TikTok user Alice Choi, also known as Hip foodie momunofficially started the trend in 2022but recently went viral with an egg flight video in June. Since then, the deviled egg-inspired treat has caught the attention of TikTok foodies and casual users alike, who posted their many egg flight footage to the app this summer.

In her 1.5 million-viewed June Egg Flight video, Choi starts with a creamy base of Kewpie mayonnaise and mustard, but you can get creative with different sauces and spreads here. Then she adds a different topping to each egg duo, including kimchi, hot and sweet jalapeños, and pickled red onions. Choi finishes the Egg Flight with a drizzle of Chili Crunch Hot Honey for the perfect mix of sweet, spicy, and tart!

“This is like rotten deviled eggs! I love it!” one user commented on Choi’s video.

As with the many deviled egg recipes Ree has developed over the years, including deviled eggs with dill pickle and deviled eggs with horseradish, there are also many options for egg toppings. Another popular food creator, @logagmtook a slightly different approach to his egg flight, using a cream cheese base topped with smoked salmon and bagel seasoning. He also made a feta, lemon and spicy honey combination, and a glaze made with chimichurri, scallions, cherry tomatoes and balsamic for a trio of fun flavor combinations!

“As someone who hates boiled eggs, these egg flights are making me crave them,” commented another user.

You know what they say: if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! After all, what’s not to love about a completely customizable snack? Let us know your ideal egg flight toppings in the comments below!
