Bleeding Cool just watched Massive Select create a Jim Lee X-Men #1 cover tribute for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Town #1. But in November, Valiant Entertainment is doing the same thing across the board. “After cover artist Richard Ortiz blew us away with his AMAZING covers for Ninjak vs. Roku, we knew we had to show the comic world more of his work. And what better way to shine a spotlight on his talent than by creating Alien Books’ first cohesive covers?” explains Alien Books Art Director Martin Casanova. “Richard did a great job paying homage to the best-selling comic of all time, X-MEN #1, by one of the best comic artists in history (if not the best of all time), the incredible Mr. Jim Lee. When we first had ideas for the variant cover theme in November, we went through many different homages (and thankfully we didn’t do any of those ideas because Deadpool and Wolverine beat us to it!) and finally realized that with 4 covers available, we could honor the most famous connected variant cover in comic history!”
