Men’s singles draw; order of play in the 1st round

The fourth and final Grand Slam tournament on the tennis calendar, the US Open, begins with main draw action on Monday, August 26. Defending champion Novak Djokovic, fresh off a stunning victory at the Olympics to take home gold, is taking part in the tournament despite fears he may have re-injured the knee he underwent surgery on at the French Open.

Djokovic will begin his title defense on August 26, facing a qualifier, Radu Albot. This will be the defending champion’s first match since the Olympic gold medal final against Carlos Alcaraz. Djokovic skipped the Cincinnati Open and will be seeking a fifth title at Flushing Meadows. He has played in the final 10 times and won four of them – in 2011, 2015, 2018 and 2023.

Gael Monfils, who sent Alcaraz home just a few days ago in the round of 32 of the Cincinnati Open, will also open his US Open account on August 26, as will Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Alexander Zverev, Lorenzo Musetti and others. Indian Sumit Nagal has a tough draw and begins the tournament against Tallon Griekspoor.
